Untitled Sculpture #2
Untitled Sculpture #2
Artist: Sheldon Harvey
Tribal Nation: Navajo
Size: 28” tall x 12” wide, black metal stand is 7 1/8” x 8”
This sculpture is constructed from a blend of natural wood of the Navajo Nation. This includes cedar, pine, cottonwood, cypress, alongside both commercial and drift wood from local lakes. The surfaces are heavily textured with layers of gesso, molding paste, sand, and wood glue before being brought to life with both acrylic and oil paints. My technique combines the directness of sculpting with the precise addition of constructed detail pieces.
Primary Materials: McCaw (parrot) feathers, cedar, pine, cypress, cottonwood, commercial store-bought wood, driftwood, and found wood, raw canvas.
Base: Steel, rods and plates to anchor the sculpture.
Mediums: Store-bought Artist acrylic and oil paints.
Textural Priming: Gesso, molding paste, fine and, and wood glue.
Process: Sculptures are sculpted; detail pieces are constructed and added.
