Collection: Eric Kayquaptewa

About the artist

Eric Kayquaptewa was born and raised on Hopi Third Mesa, in the village of Hotevilla, where he continues to reside today.

Eric started carving when he was 15 years old learning from his father, grandfather, brother, and cousins’ carving techniques. Eric shows his work at well-known Native art shows and has received various ribbons from 1st, 2nd, and honorable mentions.

Eric is inspired by the idea that there are some katsinam he hasn’t carved yet and imagines what would appear in his village. He remembers the one’s that are long forgotten and the ones that don’t appear in certain villages. Eric puts all his good feelings into a doll.
